There are two things you could be referring to.
Physical size (Which “type” ?)
Storage capacity (How “big” ?)
If someone says “you’re going to need a bigger hard drive for that”
You can purchase these new or refurbished EMC 2TB 7.2K RPM 6G SAS Hard Disk at Online marketplace in nigeria
They are talking about more storage capacity being needed.
If you are in a computer parts shop, and you say “I need a new hard drive”
The sales assistant will likely ask you “What size?” or “What type?”
This is referring to both capacity and physical size, as laptop hard drives (2.5″) are typically smaller than desktop hard drives (3.5″).
Solid State Drives (SSD) make the situation more confusing, as they come in many different physical sizes, and will fit into desktops, laptops and other devices, but the size and type you require will depend on the model of motherboard you have installed in your machine.
Common hard drives storage capacities at the moment are:
64GB (SSD only)
120GB (SSD only these days)
128GB (SSD only these days)
250GB (SSD or mechanical)
480GB (SSD only)
500GB (SSD or mechanical)
960GB (SSD only)
