First and foremost you need to know what the warranty status is on the HDD. If it’s covered under Dell, call their Helpdesk number and give the rep the units Service Tag number, located on either the back of a desktop model, or the bottom of a laptop model.
If Dell confirms the warranty is still in effect, they’ll replace it for free.
If it’s out of warranty, they’ll advise you what you can do from there and how much it will cost.
If you were to do your own repairs without Dells knowledge and guidance, you’ll void the remaining time on your warranty (if any exists). If the warranty is expired, you can do whatever you wish.
